Overview of Tech2Win

Tech2Win is a General Motors diagnostic application that is installed alongside GDS2. It is the tool to use when troubleshooting older GM vehicles, and it is paired with a VXDIAG VCX NANO interface, which can replace the GM MDI tool and supports a WiFi connection. The interface covers GM, Buick, Chevrolet and Hummer vehicles from 2000 to 2025. Tech2Win does not support Opel or Saab vehicles.

Compatibility and System Requirements

Tech2Win is supported on Windows 7 32-bit only. GDS2 is supported on Windows 7 32-bit, and Windows 8 and Windows 10 are listed as free-to-try configurations. The setup procedure is shown with GDS2 2022.05 and Tech2Win 16.02.24, and the same steps apply to later versions. The VCX NANO interface is compatible with applications that diagnose engines, transmissions, ABS, instrument panels and other systems.

Installation Process

Before installing, download the latest GDS2, the GDS2 patch, Tech2Win and VX Manager from the download area. The installation on Windows 7 follows these steps:

1. Run the AutoInstall setup in the Tech2Win folder. When the GM MDI driver prompt appears, select Install this driver software anyway.
2. Open the GDS2AutoInstall folder, run its setup, press Start and wait until the installation completes.
3. Install VX Manager 1.8.9, run it, and install the Passthru and GM GDS2/Tech2Win drivers.
4. Connect the VCX NANO interface to the laptop via USB. In the test setup, the USB serial port was set to COM4.
5. Check the device connection status in VX Manager. Update the firmware and license, then open the Diagnostic tab to confirm that the Passthru and GM drivers are installed. If they are missing, install them manually.
6. Run GDS2 from the patch, open the Diagnostic icon and select MDI 2 as the interface. Use Tech2Win for older vehicles.
